Butter Cream

"Row, Row, Row your boat, gently down the stream. Merrily, Merrily, Merrily, Merrily...Life is Butter Cream." Blake Buxa, in a rousing bathtub rendition of 'Row Your Boat' on Saturday night. I think I like his version better.

A Rite of Passage Upon Us

Arabella has been trying to convince us since Kindergarten began that she has a loose tooth. She has seen all the kids around her beginning to lose them and has been so excited for it to happen to her. I have been secretly harboring the desire to have it happen later rather than sooner, but have smiled and checked her teeth every time she announces that she really thinks one is loose this time. On Friday, while leaving a trip to Target, she told me again, "Mommy, I was just eating this chip and I swear my tooth is loose. For real, mom." I just kind of nodded from the front seat assuming it was her usual "wishing" for that tooth to be loose. This morning, soon after everyone woke up, she again stated that her tooth was loose. I checked it given I was not driving this time and, for real, this time, she has a loose tooth. Is there something wrong with me that my eyes pricked with tears upon this realization? Is this normal Mommy reaction? I know all the kids this age are loosing them now - some of them have practically a mouthful missing, but it just seems to soon in my own personal mind...like she really is growing up and there is absolutely nothing I can do to stop it. I am also terrorized by my own personal memories of my loving family nicknaming me the "picket fence" during the second grade when nearly all of my teeth were missing from the front of my mouth. Nice, huh? I can remember being excited when it happened to me so I totally get why Arabella is so worked up, but it doesn't stop me from being sad at this tiny milestone. Am I ever going to stop whining about my babies getting bigger?

These pics were from this morning in the pool. The kids are practically living in the swimming pool now with the weather so warm. I have some great jumping shots I need to edit that I will share soon. Happy Sunday.

Summer Time Play

Here are just a few snapshots of the kids from this summer. We have had a busy schedule for the last couple of weeks and are enjoying some quiet time now (as quiet as it can be with these three). I guess I should go more for the term "mellow." Blake and Arabella are still in gymnastics for the summer and Arabella is taking a summer session of ballet as she wants to earn some toes shoes when she is older. Other than that, we are filling our days with swimming and playing and more playing. Gary took Blake fishing again this last weekend and they caught quite a few fish. Gary has also been acquiring many new man "toys" via Craigslist so Blake always goes with Gary on his various errands...mostly small equipment and machines that I am clueless about. We had one week where he kept returning to the same place to pick up stuff that had endless amount of frogs. Blake would excitedly go with him and come home with a dozen frogs every night in a ziploc bag. They would have a ceremonial freeing of the frogs every evening. As long as they stay clear of me, I am fine with it. We are gearing up for a camping trip to Patrick's Point on the Fourth of July weekend with some friends. I am a bit weary with the whole camping idea, but the kids are super excited. I am looking forward to getting some beautiful pictures. Happy Summer!

A Work in Progress

Here is our new home as of yesterday. We are so excited. It's starting to look like a house. Below are some other random shots from yesterday.

This is the where the skylight will be. It's located above the front door in the center. You can see it from the top picture sticking up at the highest point in the center. I took this picture from the rotunda. This is one of Gary's many ideas for the house.
This is Arabella having her first official "time out" in her bedroom after being a bit over dramatic (imagine that!) about her toes hurting during our visit. She has a prime view from her bedroom.

Here is my dear monkey husband - literally scaling the rafters to get the ladder from the 2nd floor. I just about had a heart attack when I walked into the kitchen area to find him that high. They have not put the stairs in yet and they put the ladders in the upstairs over the weekends, so Gary has to scale the walls if we want to explore up there. It's not usually this difficult, but access is getting limited now with the walls up. I have threatened him if he does this again.

And here is just a pretty shot of my Pooh-Be-Choo-Be in the backyard. She is so bronze from swim lessons the past 2 weeks.

My Little Squirrel

What a beautiful little squirrel, if I do say so myself. I will get on tomorrow and tell more of her recital, but it is midnight and Mommy is going to bed. My girl was a beautiful little dancer this evening. I am very proud.

Who Me???

I caught my youngest daughter "playing with the pishes" as she says, last week. When I called her name, she looked up at my like "What's your problem?" Really Mom...What is my problem? Just because my one year old in leaning into a pond of fish and frogs making her clothing dirty and possibly falling in on her head. Why would I ever think to stop her antics?

Half way through my picture snapping, Blake came outside and got in the game. Doesn't it seem like every time I post pictures of Olivia, she is getting into some kind of trouble? There may be a trend happening.

Here is the "What's your problem?" look. I see this quite often.

Be My Teddy Bear?

Wouldn't you totally be her Teddy Bear? She looks cute beyond words to this proud Mommy. She kind of looks like a kitty, but is actually a bear as they tap to Elvis "Be My Teddy Bear." Today they are having dress rehearsals for the big day tomorrow. Her ballet outfit is a squirrel. If possible, it is actually cuter than this costume.

Our Little da Vinci

Arabella was channeling her inner Leonardo da Vinci last weekend and did some portraits of the men in her life out by the pool. Above is her interpretation of Blake playing with the hose. You will have to note the T-Rex shirt. We were pretty impressed. We have a good one of Daddy showing off his muscles I will have to share soon. I think she is probably still on the Princess-Ice Skating-Singer career path, but at least she has something to fall back on.

Happy 40th Daddy!

I dug up an old picture of Gary and I right after we got married for his photo today. This was taken back in 2001 before we had children and still had our youth. Ahh - the peaceful days...

Anyway, Gary and I had our first date on his 30th birthday, so it's easy for us to remember how long we have been together(unless we forget the other persons age which a whole other issue). This year was an easy one though. Gary took his 30th like a champ and seems to be doing the same with this one. I think his age might be wearing on his memory and senses a bit though as I was able to pull off a surprise party without him knowing. I am quite proud of myself really as keeping a secret in this house with these little ears and mouths in next to impossible. Arabella even knew all the details and kept it to herself (shocking!). I had a dinner party of 10 for him at our favorite restaurant (Moonstone Bistro), but I took him there under the guise that it was "date night." He didn't suspect a thing and all of our friends said the look on his face when we walked in was completely priceless. We had such a fun time. It was perfect.

We are about to have some Marble Slab ice cream cake to celebrate for the evening. We hope you had the best birthday weekend ever, Daddy! You are the best!

Swirly Rides and Such

Here are just a few of my favorite pictures of Liv and Bella from the past couple of weeks. Arabella is so loving and nurturing with Livvy and in turn, Liv thinks Arabella hung the moon all by herself. They love to play dress up, babies and make-up/hair. They also have this sweet game they play were Arabella will yell, "Who wants a swirly ride??" and Liv will come screaming either "I Do!!" or "MEEEE!" Arabella will then pick her up and swing her around wildly in the living room. Olivia wraps her legs around Bella's waist and throws her head back, squealing with glee. It's adorable. (the third pic on this post is at the end of a swirly ride) They also do "Ding Dong" which is another twirling game involving Livvy's feet. No wonder my living room furniture is sitting on the edge of my actual living room. We need room for crazy girls (and the boy!)

It's so sweet to watch their relationship right now. They are so close and so sweet together - both very girly at this point. It will be interesting to see if they stay that way, or if a tomboy emerges. I am photo documenting these sweet times to show them later on when the teenage clothing battles commence...

It's That Time Again

It's time for me to start hammering you with swimming pool shots as we have begun our swim season here. It should be interesting to see what happens with Olivia this summer as when Blake was this age, he was swimming the entire long length of the pool unassisted. We know that is not a normal expectation by any standards for a not quite 2 year old, and we certainly will not hold Olivia to it. Our curiosity comes by her stubborn attitude as it is near impossible to get this child to do something she doesn't want to do. Her current attitude on the swimming pool is that she will gladly get in as long as she is on the first step on wading in on the shelf, but any further than that is unacceptable. Her trend the last 2 weeks has been that any time anyone casually asks about swimming or mentions it, she rips her clothing and diaper off and runs for the pool and immediately climbs in. It's a fantastic nightmare for Mommy. She then decided, after being dunked by Daddy on several occasions in an attempt to get her "used" to the water, that any time he comes any where near the water when she is in, to run for the house at a high speed. (Good going Daddy!) Did I mention she is screaming while she runs? I let you know how swim lessons with Miss Phoebe next week. It should be interesting to say the least.

I love these jumping shots. They are pure bliss.
