Merry Christmas 2007

We were awakened this morning by a gleeful squeal from our oldest daughter. She came bounding into our room shouting "Santa came!!" We quickly jumped out of bed to try and catch some video of she and Blake walking into the living room full of gifts. I had to practically hold down Arabella as she was so excited to go get her Brother Bear and show him what Santa had left. We had a picture perfect morning of opening gifts. Everyone has been steadily entertained by all of their new toys and gadgets - and Mommy has kept busy trying to keep up with all the boxes and wrapping that had taken over our living room. The day could only be more perfect if our family was here to enjoy it with us. We miss you and love you.

A Weekend of Firsts...

We had Olivia's first weekend at Mount Shasta, Blakey's first time to ski and Mommy, Blakey and Arabella's first time to ice skate. I am happy to report that all went very well. We stayed at the Mount Shasta resort which has these really fantastic Chalets right on the lake. They are really neat little cabins complete with kitchens and bedrooms. The kids actually thought they were neater than the ice skating or skiing put together. Ice skating was really neat as it was an outdoor rink right up on the mountain. Santa even showed up with Mrs Clause and skated for a bit. I was a bit tentative about trying it as it was my first time ever and I suffered a broken toe on Friday night (a small incident with the kids and tripping), but it was a lot of fun...no spills or anything. I actually thought it was pretty easy probably because I have rollerbladed. Arabella kept looking for the Ice Skater Princesses, but she had to settle for Mommy. Blakey was hilarious on the skis. I think he is going to be Daddy's little buddy on the slopes in the coming years. As for Livvy, she was just the same as always, smiling and taking it all in. The kids are pretty wound up for Santa to come tonight. Tomorrow should be tons of fun.

Get In...

This is a very old picture of my baby boy (he was 3 months old), but one of my favs from the past, and I have a Blakey story to share. He & I were in Arabella's room the other night cleaning up before bed time. He came across one of her mini photo albums and pulled out a picture of me when I was 8 month pregnant with Arabella after my baby shower with my Mom touching my large belly. He immediately pointed at my Mom and said, "GiGi". I said, "Yes, and that is Mommy when I was pregnant with Arabella. See - there is a baby in my belly. That was your big sissy." "Sis?" he replied. "Yes, she was in Mommy's belly, you were in Mommy's belly and so was Livvy. Remember, Livvy was in my belly and then she came out?" His reply was to pat my belly and say "Baby?" I said, "No, no baby right now." He then looked at me with those big blue eyes, then back at my belly - lifted my shirt up and said, "Get in" and proceeded to put his head under my shirt in an effort to climb back in. It was so sweet and sincere. I think I would let my little Blakey back in until the end of time if I could. I love him so much.

Like Father, Like Son

This was one of those moments that turned Mommy to mush. Blakey wore his first tie to a Christmas party last Friday night. As I watched Daddy dressing up his Big Boy, my eyes welled with tears. It was the sweetest thing. I could see flashes of my son as a man in that moment next to his father. What lucky little boy to have such a wonderful man as his role model.

Tis the Season...

Tis the season for parties, and we had a family one to attend last night. We managed to get everyone into a family photo in front of our own tree before we left and got some smiles out of it. We are finally winding up all the parties for the year, and I can say although it has been fun, I am glad. I am ready to stay at home and snuggle with the kids.

If You Cover Your Face...

If you cover your face and close your eyes, Santa won't be able to see you...or so it was for our 2 year old son, Blake. I have to hand it to him though - he did not cry at all. He eventually took his hands off of his eyes in exchange for 2 candy canes and even muttered out "MeMo" (for Nemo) as his gift of choice. We better hope Santa comes up with some Nemo...

M.I.A.

We have had a whirlwind month of November in the Buxa household - so much so that I have not even had a moment to post anything on here. I am not sure that December will be any calmer, but we are all alive and well. We visited San Francisco for a long weekend at the beginning of the month and then journeyed to Texas for Thanksgiving. The kids were great on the plane - Olivia passed her "how to be a good baby while flying" test. She was wonderful - which puts our mind at ease that we will have a smooth flight with the 3 of them to Hawaii in February. Our babies are just growing into bigger little people everyday. Arabella suddenly knows no stranger, Blakey is talking up a storm and little Livvy Brynn has joined in on the chatfest. We are going to have a chatty household for the next few years. Life is good.

Rolling, Rolling, Rolling...

We are about to roll down to the Bay for a visit, but I had to write about our little Livvy's own rolling last night. We were just sitting on the couch and she started trying to roll over. I figured there was no way since she had never done it and both of my other kids were over 4 months when they did it. Livvy, as always, had her own time table. She not only rolled over once, but 3 times. It was pretty cool to watch.

My Baby Turns Four...

Our sweet Arabella is turning four years old tomorrow. To celebrate, we had a party today with some kids from her preschool. It was a Princess/Prince tea party. The children were all so very cute and well behaved. Arabella's favorite thing was her cake - a Barbie doll fashioned in the dress she was wearing to the party. Maybe a little over-the-top for a 4 year old, but she loved it. Anything for my little princess...

May the Force Be With You...

Happy Halloween from the Star Wars Family. Fun was had by all, but I had to put this photo of Little Livvy on her first Halloween. Our Little Yoda was so very cute. Blake figured out after the first house that they gave candy if you knocked on the door so he high tailed it up to each door and knocked furiously, light saber in hand. Queen Amidala and Obi Wan got enough candy to last a month...

The Big 3-M-O

The Big 3 months old...I am a week late in posting this (busy Mommy!), but our little Livvy turned 3 months old last week. We celebrated with a little cupcake and candle. Unfortunately, it was her birthday and she cried cause she wanted to. The pics did not turn out great so I decided to post another fav photo from last week. We sat Livvy down next to the beloved Miss B for some pics. Gary walked into the room while we were doing it and did a double take..."I could have sat on her thinking she was the doll - they look so much alike," he said.

She is doing quite well a 3 months - has outgrown most of her 0-3 month clothes and is a whopping 12 lbs as of last week(whopping for our little squirt). She is a big talker already - full of 'goos' and 'coos', giggles and grins. She is truly our little doll.

Happy Feet

Here is my 'Poof in the Foof' - or these days, better known as 'Happy Feet.' Our boy has developed an affection for the movie 'Happy Feet' (especially the character, Mumble) and now will dance on cue showing anyone his happy feet. He gets his feet going so fast, his arms grooving and the biggest smile on his face. It is absolutely adorable and completely priceless.

Joy

Gary & I had a date night last night to celebrate my birthday. We shared a wonderful dinner and a great bottle of Cakebread while Carol watched our little loves at home. After we got home and everyone was settling into bed, I ran to check my email and found this picture. I was so excited as Gary had not seen them yet. It was an exausting 2 hour shoot (thank you, Blakey), but even just this one photo makes it all so worth it. They are such sweet, loving, beautiful little people and it radiates in their faces. I can't help but break out into a huge grin everytime I look at this photo. We went out to the same photographer's home today (her name is Linette Penick - she is awesome!) for some family pics with Daddy. I think they are going to be really neat - we played out behind her house in Cow Creek (the weather was beautiful and the leaves changing color so gorgeous) and also took some photos in the studio. We are certainly worn out now, but I know we will appreciate the effort forever when we see the pics of our babies.

Happy Birthday to Mommy

Happy Birthday to Mommy...I heard for 5 days straight. That song is the kid's favorite, so they made my birthday begin on the Friday before. We celebrated on Saturday night (since Daddy works on Tuesday) with Daddy making dinner (eggplant parmesan) and cake (Arabella picked it out) and gifts. My gifts were pretty fun- a personalized license plate holder for the front of my Escalade that says "Soccer Mamma" (Daddy thougth this was fun and funny), a digital picture key chain complete with photos that Daddy uploaded (a pink heart shape that holds up to 56 photos) and some Bose noise canceling head phones (these were more for Daddy we think - nice try though). They sang Happy Birthday so sweetly and helped me blow out the candles. It was a very sweet day.

The Sweet Stuff of Life

We have always called Livvy our "little bag of sugar" as when we brought her home, she was the size of a 5 lb bag of sugar. She has given credit to her name as she gives us all of the sweet "stuff" in life. All of the cries, the middle of the night feedings and dirty diapers go completely out of mind when we see this smile. She is so worth it. I think I could spend an entire day watching and listening to all the grins, giggles, 'coos' and 'goos'...

Saturday, October 13, 2007

Here is our sweet little Olivia resting on Daddy's chest this morning at Arabella's soccer game. It was a beautiful day today - 70 degrees and sunny. Tonight I am being made a special birthday dinner by my family. My birthday is not until Tuesday, but Arabella wants to start the party early. She is currently singing some birthday songs for me as I type about sparkling ponies in Poneyville...

Quote of the Day

This quote came last night at bath time while talking to Daddy. Gary always brings fruit for them to snack on during their bath. I had gone to Trader Joe's last week and brought home some golden kiwi. So, they were eating some guava from Gary's guava tree and some golden kiwi. Gary was explaining to them what each thing was and told her to try the golden kiwi - that is was just like the green kiwi, but golden in color. She tasted it and said, "Daddy, I am familiar with this taste, and I like it alot." I didn't even know she knew the word "familiar", but she is using it in the right context. She surprises us everyday...

The Perfect Pumpkin

We had our annual trek to the pumpkin patch on Saturday in search of the perfect pumpkin. We ended up with several interesting looking ones including one that is 90 lbs. Thank goodness Daddy has big muscles to get it in and out of the car...
This is truly one of my favorite times of the year - the leaves are changing, the air is brisk and the kids are filled with excitement over the upcoming holiday season. Life couldn't be better.

The Magic in your Heart

Yesterday it began raining very lightly in the afternoon. Arabella asked me if it was going to rain the next day. I told her I did not know - I had not seen the weather forecast. She said, "Mommy, I will just ask God. You just ask him with the magic in your heart. I will ask him tonight." I asked, "The magic in your heart?" She answered, "Yes, Mommy. When you talk to God, you don't have to use words. You just talk with your heart and he will hear you - and he will answer you back. You just close your eyes and breathe deeply, and talk to him with your heart."

I told Gary about what she said thinking that he had told her this. He did not. It is a pretty profound thought coming out of a 3 year old's mouth...and very sweet.

Pajama Party

We rarely get a photo of the whole family at the same time, but I managed to round everyone up last night after bath time and get a shot. Olivia still looks like she is one of Arabella's dolls...

Quote of the Day...

I guess I should call this "quotes of the day" as my son gave us 2 giggles yesterday. As I was leaving for errands, I asked him if he was going to be a "good listener" for our babysitter, Carol. His response came in the sweetest little tone of "No..." as he hopped on his quad and took off. It may not seem like an odd answer coming out of 2 year old's mouth, but coming from my normally very sweet and compliant son, it made us step back. Later that night, right before bed, I walked into the living room to find a bag of papers and crayons all over the floor. I asked Arabella if she did it. "No, Mommy. It was Blakey..." she said. I turned to Blakey and asked "Blakey, did you make this mess?" He answered another very sweet "No" and shook his head furiously. I reworded my question to "Blake, who made this mess?" He grinned and answered "Blakey..." and began helping me clean it up. I think he has a new favorite word...one that is going to give Mommy lots of grief.

The Buxa Coastal Camp Out

Gary elected to take Arabella & Blake camping on the coast this weekend with his brother and his 3 small children (6 & under). It sounded like a daunting task to me so I stayed behind with our newborn (we shopped, got a pedicure and relaxed). When the Escalade pulled into the driveway late last night, out came 2 little balls of dirt and my husband, the mountain man. I guess a big mess is a sign of a good time??

They in fact did have fun, but my favorite story from the trip was courtesy of my son, Blake. He did not want to go to sleep at night and was apparently throwing quite the fit when Gary would try to put him down. On Saturday night, tired from the days activities, they climbed into the tent and sleeping bags. Blake was having none of the cuddling, so Daddy cuddled his baby girl who was nearly asleep. It was pitch dark so he was not completely aware of what Blake was doing - only that he was rooting around in the tent with things. Suddenly a toothbrush is thrust at his mouth. Gary sits up and discovers that Blakey was attempting to brush his teeth with his toothbrush that he had covered in lotion and then rolled in the dirt. No sooner had he got that away from him and settle everyone back into bed, he felt he was suddenly on the hard ground. Further inspection revealed that Blake had pulled the plug out of the blow up mattress. I guess that what you get when you bring a 2 year old camping...it brings a big smile to Mommy's face.

Quote of the Day

Several minutes after Gary had put Blake to bed 2 nights ago, he woke up and began crying for his Daddy to come back. We were all across the house, but could hear him on the monitor. Arabella exclaimed "Daddy, can you hear Blakey? He's calling for you. He's like, hysterical! He's hysterical, Daddy!"
We love the big words that come out of her little 3 year old mouth...

A Perfect 10!

Our little Livvy had her 2 month well baby check today where we found out she has hit the 10 lbs mark. We can't believe she was our little 5 lb preemie 2 months ago...she is now in the 25% for weight, 25-50% for height and 25-50% on her head circumference. Blake also had a well baby check today since he just turned two - he is a whopping 30 lbs with a 90% height and 95% head circumference...now that is a Buxa head.

Time Flies...

Our sweet baby boy has turned 2 years old now. I don't know where the time has gone. He has truly been such a blessing and an angel to our family. We love our Blakey.

Got you!

What happens when your 3 year old notices you are trying to take candid photos of her...

The Little Moments

It's the little moments I try to cherish these days with the business of life with 3 kids. It seems as though we are constantly coming or going, or trying to do both at once. Since we know that we are finished with having children, our little Livvy has been especially precious to us. When you have your first child, you are obsessed with them and all of their milestones - everything is so very important. I wondered after we had Arabella if we would be as crazed over the happenings of those new babies as we had been with her. I guess it's like the cliche that the "love multiplies when you have more children, not divides" that the same is true with the little things - those little moments that define everyday life. We have just kept obesessing over them with Blake and Olivia as though we had never seen them in our lives...first bath, first smile, talking, crawling, walking...

Back to my little moments point...we had Olivia's first "big girl" bath this week in our jacuzzi tub. We have done this with the other 2 when they were newborn and photo documented how much they love it. Since this will be our last "first bath" we got plenty of those moments on film to always remember. It's those little moments that truly are so precious.

In an instant...

This past weekend we had our first mini-vacation as a family of five. We were not really knowing how it would go - 3 children under 4 in our hotel room, but fortunately, all went well. We all actually got normal sleep (hard to believe) and everyone had a great time. We spent some time on the boardwalk and beach in Santa Cruz, visiting all of the sea life at the Monterey Aquarium and enjoyed the 17 mile drive along Pebble Beach capped off with a wonderful afternoon in Carmel (our favorite place). While in Santa Cruz, we got the pleasure of the company of some old friends of mine. One of my best friends from the Bay Area came down with her husband of 2 years. Over the course of a great dinner and some even better wine, we got to the discussion of children and whether they would have them or not. My friend, Stacy, wants them more than anything. Her husband, Jack, is not so sure. He is afraid of what life will turn into with babies and afraid he is too selfish. I answered him with my own experience - that I too used to be a very selfish person. I find it hard to believe on an almost daily basis that I am a grown-up now and mother of three. In my "pep talk" with Jack, a thought came out of my mouth that has stuck with me. I told him "A baby will make you forget yourself in an instant." I know this because it has happened to me 3 times over. Yes - it is life changing and tiring at times, but there is something so rewarding about living for someone else. It is the greatest thing we have ever done.

Brag on My Boy

A proud Mommy is pleased to announce that our son Blakey is officially swimming on his own. He has been our "baby shark" all summer - enjoying the pool like a wildman and making Mommy & Daddy a bit nervous from his lack of fear. The weekend after we brought Livvy home from the hospital, our boy just took off - he would jump in the pool after his sister and was suddenly able to get his head above water all on his own. We are so proud of him since he is not quite 2 years old and already such a little fish...

Arabella also has a new trick of her own - she does flips into the pool. She does front flips and side flips at this point and does them over and over making up new variations each night. We are picturing a gymnast or an Olympic diver now...

Our New Venture

Inpsired by my dear friend, Megan, I have decided to start a blog for my family. We recently completed our family of 5 with the addition of Olivia Brynn, born July 23rd. Our oldest daughter, Arabella, is 3 1/2. Our son Blake will be 2 on September 13th. We have been adjusting to life with 3 children quite easily as Olivia is an angel sent from above. She is truly a sweet, very easy baby, and Bella & Blake love her so very much. We feel very blessed.
